It grows the best at temperatures of 17 - 22 degrees Celsius. Resistant to Peronospora. The large cabbages are great for storing as well as for fresh consumption. They can also be preserved.

This variety is mainly used for late production, but you can also sow the seeds for mid-early harvest.

Cabbage was cultivated from wild leafy cabbage, which grew in the Mediterranean region and on the territory of western Europe in ancient times. In Ancient Greece cabbage has been used both for food and to treat skin problems.

The variety Balkan of late cabbage has a medium-sized compact raised rosette. The cabbage weighs about 4.5 kg, it is round and dense and has a delicate and tender texture, with an upright forehead above the rosette. It looks very good for trading. The leaves are grassy green on stripes.

Late cabbage Balkan is a variety that is resistant to downy mildew and Peronospora. It tolerates high temperatures and low air humidity. It can be stored long after it has been harvested, even after Christmas.

Sow the seeds in May and June. If you live in the northern regions of Bulgaria do it at the beginning of June. Transplant  the seedlings about a month later. When transplanting, cut off part of the roots and part of the leaves.

Leave about 40 to 60 cm between the individual plants of cabbage Balkan. You can also grow it bilaterally at wider interrows. Clay-sandy soil with a neutral reaction is ideal for growing this variety. We do not recommend planting this variety of cabbage on acidic soils. The plants respond very well to fertilization with appropriate vegetable fertilizers. The cabbage does not tolerate drought. We recommend watering it frequently, at least once every three days.

You can sow the seeds of late cabbage Balkan as a second crop after early spring crops such as peas, potatoes, onions, garlic, etc. The vegetation of the late cabbage is about 130 to 140 days.

The harvest of the variety Balkan in October and November is ready to harvest before the autumn cold weather starts. The cabbages can freeze and the quality of the production will deteriorate at temperatures around minus 5 degrees Celsius.

Cabbage is extremely beneficial because of its richness in a variety of vitamins from the groups A, B, C and P, amino acids, macro- and microelements such as magnesium, calcium, potassium, phosphorus, manganese, and it even surpasses lemons in terms of content of vitamin C.
