Cauliflower, also called Carnabit in Bulgaria, is an annual herbaceous plant of the genus Cabbage of the Cruciferous family. The homeland of the cauliflower is considered to be the Mediterranean and, more precisely, its eastern part. Its cultivation is spread all over the world, mostly in America and Europe. Cauliflower is extremely rich in vitamins C, B1 and B2. It is used both for fresh consumption in salads and for preparing dishes. Cauliflower is increasingly used for canning alone or together with cabbage, green tomatoes, carrots and other vegetables. In some parts of Dobrudja it is called konopida. In Varna it is known as Carnabit.

The head of the cauliflower Snowball is large and white. It can be stored for a long time without losing its qualities.

Sow the premium seeds of cauliflower Snowball in May and June at a depth of 0.5 to 1 cm. The optimal temperature for seed germination is 18-22 degrees Celsius. As soon as the plants sprout, limit the watering for better rooting. After the roots grow well you can water regularly. Transplant the seedlings after about a month. With proper care, at the end of September and in October, you can harvest.

Cauliflower needs regular irrigation for its optimal development, especially during the phase of formation and growth of the head.

Plant the seedlings in rows at a distance of 50 cm and in the row at a distance of 35-40 cm. The soil should be moisture-retaining, but not over moistening, because this can cause more harm than good. The most suitable soils are alluvial and black earth.

One of the most important concerns during the growing season is to protect the head of the cauliflower Snowball from direct sunlight, because it can turn yellow or pink. The leaves of the plant should be folded over the head, but this action doesn’t have a lasting effect. We recommend tying a few leaves on the head of the cauliflower with a rubber band. Another important concern is trenching, which should be 2 - 3 cm deep. Regular fertilization also favors better development, due to the fact that the root system of cauliflower is relatively weak.
